In December we will Surf the South American Beach Games
22 May 2009, San Diego, CA - The South American Sports Organization (ODESUR) has confirmed that the First South American Beach Games will be held from December 3 to 13 in Montevideo and Punta del Este, Uruguay and Surfing is going to be an official sport in this historic occasion.
Recently, Surfing has taken big strides on the long path towards Olympic Games participacion, something first requested by multi Olympic gold medallist Duke Kahanamoku in 1920. In October 2008 Surfing debuted in the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) sanctioned Beach Games, part of the Olympic Movement, that were held in Bali, Indonesia. Surfing was the most popular sport according to visitors’ votes on the official event webpage.
Now, in the first ever South American Beach Games, the Olympic Movement has invited Surfing once again in its newest and more and very promising event.
Fernando Aguerre, ISA President, said about the upcoming event: “The ISA is proud and honored to accept to organize the surfing competitions on this Beach Games. This time aided by the Pan American Surfing Association (PASA) our organization will show the world that Surfing is a key sport for today’s youth.
Surfing and its attractive lifestyle are at the centre of beach culture around the world. The inclusion of surfing in these inaugural Beach Games is a very wise move by ODESUR. Millions of surfers in South America are going to be very supportive of these Games.”
Dates are set. The famous Punta del Este will witness the best surfing of South America from December 9 to 13, 2009 in the waves of Montoya.

En diciembre surfearemos los Juegos Sudamericanos de Playa
22 de mayo de 2009, San Diego, CA, USA - La Organización Deportiva Suramericana (ODESUR) confirmó que los Primeros Juegos Sudamericanos de Playa serán realizados desde el 3 hasta el 13 de diciembre en Montevideo y Punta del Este, Uruguay, y el Surfing será un deporte oficial en ésta ocasión histórica.
Recientemente, el Surfing ha dado grandes pasos en el camino que termina en la participación en los Juegos Olímpicos, algo que fue pedido en primer lugar por el varias veces medallista de Oro en las Olimpíadas, Duke Kahanamoku en 1920. En octubre de 2008 el surfing hizo su debut en el evento sancionado por el Concejo Olímpico Asiático (OCA, por sus iniciales en inglés), los Juegos Asiáticos de Playa, parte del Movimiento Olímpico, realizados en Bali, Indonesia. El Surfing fue el deporte más popular de acuerdo a una encuesta realizada en la página oficial del evento.
Ahora, en los primeros Juegos Sudamericanos de Playa en la historia, el Movimiento Olímpico ha invitado al surfing nuevamente a su más nuevo y más prometedor evento.
Fernando Aguerre, Presidente de la ISA, dijo sobre el venidero evento: “La ISA se siente orgullosa y honrada por aceptar organizar la competencia de surfing en estos Juegos de Playa. En esta ocasión contando con el apoyo de la Asociación Panamericana de Surfing, nuestra organización le mostrará al mundo que el Surfing es un deporte clave para la juventud.
El Surfing y su atractiva forma de vida son el centro de la cultura de playa alrededor del mundo. La inclusión del Surfing en los inaugurales Juegos de Playa representa una gestión muy sabia por parte de ODESUR. Millones de surfistas en América del Sur apoyarán y seguirán estos Juegos”.
Las fechas están marcadas. La famosa Punta del Este presenciará el mejor surfing sudamericano desde el 9 hasta el 13 de diciembre de 2009 en las olas de Montoya.
