BOLIVAR WILL SURF!
The Bolivarian Sports Organization (ODEBO, Organizacion Deportiva Bolivariana), organizer of the Bolivarian Games, the regional multi-sport event held in honor of Simón Bolívar, announced it will include surfing as an official sport in the 17th Edition of the Games.
Scheduled for September 12 – 14, 2009, a highlight of the Bolivarian Games is the fact that it will be happening simultaneously in three countries. The center of the Games will be held in Sucre, Bolivia, with additional sporting events being held in Peru. The waves of La FAE beach in Salinas, Ecuador, home of the 2009 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship were selected to host the international surfing event. Participating countries will include Colombia, Panama, Peru, Ecuador and Venezuela.
ODEBO is an International Sports Organization in Latin America. Each surfer competing in the event will do so as a part of their National team under the organization of their respective National Olympic Committee.
The inclusion of surfing is definitely another step towards a better surfing future.
The Surfing event will run the following disciplines and divisions:

Open Women
Under 18
Longboard
Bodyboard Men
Bodyboard Women
ISA National Governing Bodies from the above named countries are encouraged to contact their local NOC to participate in this historic event. This is one of the most important surfing events in the region this year.
About the ISA
The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the World Governing Authority for Surfing and all Surfriding activities, including Short Board, Longboard, Bodyboard, Kneeboard, Tandem, Skimboard, Tow In and Stand Up Paddle surfing. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running world championships since 1964 and the Junior World Championships since 1980.
ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of over 50 countries on six continents. Its headquarters are located in La Jolla, California. It is presided by Fernando Aguerre, first elected in 1994 in Rio, and re-elected six times since. The ISA’s four Vice Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Robin de Kock (South Africa), Mike Gerard (USA), and Karin Sierralta (Peru).

La Organización Deportiva Bolivariana (ODEBO), fiscalizadora de los Juegos Bolivarianos, el evento regional multi-deportivo realizado en honor a Simón Bolivar, anunció que incluirá al Surfing como deporte oficial de la 17ª edición de los Juegos.
Marcado para realizarse desde el 12 hasta el 14 de septiembre de 2009, un destaque de los Juegos Bolivarianos es el hecho que serán realizados simultáneamente en tres países. El centro será en Sucre, Bolivia, con deportes adicionales siendo realizados en Perú. Las olas de la playa de la FAE en Salinas, Ecuador, localidad de los Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship 2009 fueron seleccionadas para realizar el evento internacional de Surfing. Los países participantes incluyen Colombia, Panamá, Perú, Ecuador y Venezuela.
ODEBO es una Organización Deportiva Internacional en Latinoamérica. Cada surfista compitiendo en el evento lo hará como parte del Equipo Nacional bajo la organización de sus respectivos Comités Olímpicos Nacionales.
